Leading Courses discovers Madrid’s potential as one of Europe’s great golf destinations

Europe’s leading platform for discovering and booking golf courses visits the Region of Madrid to experience first hand its golf, tourism and gastronomic offering

The Association of Golf Courses of Madrid, ACGM, has welcomed representatives from Leading Courses, one of Europe’s leading platforms for discovering, comparing and booking golf courses, on an exclusive familiarisation trip, Fam Trip, organised with the aim of showcasing the Region of Madrid’s potential as an international benchmark golf destination.

Over several days, the Leading Courses team had the opportunity to visit some of the region’s most emblematic courses, experience the quality of their facilities and discover the extensive tourism offering that makes Madrid a unique destination for golf travellers.

Five courses to showcase the diversity of golf in Madrid

The itinerary included visits and golf days at Real Club La Moraleja, Club de Golf Retamares, Golf Santander, Real Club de Golf La Herrería and Centro Nacional de Golf, five venues that reflect the diversity, excellent maintenance and quality of Madrid’s course designs.

From internationally renowned courses to venues capable of hosting major professional competitions, the representatives of Leading Courses were able to see first hand the high standard of the Region of Madrid’s sporting offer, as well as the proximity between the different golf clubs and the centre of the capital.

An experience that combines golf, culture, gastronomy and shopping

The Fam Trip also showed that Madrid offers much more than golf. After playing, the visitors enjoyed some of the capital’s main tourist attractions, walking through its streets, visiting its monuments, cultural spaces and emblematic sites both in the city and across the Region of Madrid, including San Lorenzo de El Escorial and its monastery, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The experience was completed at VP Plaza España Design, the hotel where they stayed throughout their visit, a benchmark hotel in the capital thanks to its quality, premium customer service and exclusivity. There, they also discovered Ginkgo Sky Bar, a highly representative gastronomic space in the city. Its culinary proposal and panoramic views of the Madrid skyline make it an essential location for tourists visiting Madrid.

This programme helped highlight one of the great differentiating factors of the Region of Madrid, the possibility of combining, in a single trip, top level golf with World Heritage, gastronomy, culture, leisure and a wide range of shopping and hotel options.

Álvaro Sevilla, head of the Association of Golf Courses of Madrid, gave a very positive assessment of the visit and highlighted the excellent reception the destination received from the representatives of Leading Courses. “The impressions they shared with us were extraordinarily positive. They were surprised by the quality and excellent condition of the courses, by the variety of layouts Madrid has to offer and, above all, by how easy it is to combine several golf courses with a major European capital in just a few minutes’ travel. It is a model that very few destinations can offer.”

Sevilla also underlined the added value of the tourism experience. “They also highlighted the gastronomic offering, the cultural richness, the atmosphere of the city and the quality of the establishments they were able to visit. They saw that Madrid is not only a great golf destination, but a complete experience for any international traveller.”

Regarding the objective of this type of initiative, he added, “This Fam Trip is part of our international promotion strategy. We want important prescribers such as Leading Courses to experience the destination first hand, so they can share that experience with millions of golfers around the world. Today, the decision to take a golf trip often begins on digital platforms such as Leading Courses, which is why being present on them and showcasing the quality of our offer is essential to continue positioning Madrid among Europe’s leading golf destinations.”

An international showcase for golf in Madrid

Founded in 2012 in the Netherlands, Leading Courses has become one of the most important independent platforms in the golf sector. Available in several languages, it brings together information on more than 25,000 golf courses around the world, includes thousands of player reviews and allows users to book tee times in real time at hundreds of courses through direct integration with leading international providers.

The visit by Leading Courses represents a new opportunity to strengthen the international presence of Madrid’s golf courses and to continue positioning the Greater Madrid Golf brand among the main source markets for golf tourism.

Through initiatives such as this, the Association of Golf Courses of Madrid continues to promote a strategy based on bringing the destination closer to the leading international players in the sector, showcasing a unique model in Europe where golf, city, culture, gastronomy and premium experiences come together in one destination.
